Metropolitan Ballet Theatre is very excited to introduce classical ballet performances to the community. With the help of these grants MBT will be able to reach out to audiences that have not had the opportunity to see a live ballet performance. The performance "Graduation Ball" by David Lichine is a light-hearted comic ballet set in 1840's Vienna to the music of Johann Strauss. The ballet depicts a graduation dance where young ladies from a Viennese academy and the young men from a neighboring military school must work to overcome their mutual shyness bringing to stage fun and comical characters.

MBT Students Sweep 2009 National Summer Program Auditions
One of the measures of the quality of training at a ballet academy is how its students fare in highly selective national auditions for professional ballet companies’ summer programs. Students at Metropolitan Ballet Theatre, now completing its tenth year under the leadership of Maniya Barredo, Artistic Director, have once again passed that test with flying colors.
MBT dancers have been accepted to some of the most prestigious summer intensives in the country, including American Ballet Theater, San Francisco Ballet, Joffrey, Pacific Northwest, Washington Ballet, Kirov, Houston Ballet, Harid Conservatory, Kaatsbaan, Pittsburgh Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Montgomery Ballet, Alabama Ballet, Richmond Ballet, and North Carolina School or the Arts. Older MBT students averaged more than 6 invitations, with most being accepted to every program for which they auditioned . Eight students were offered scholarships.
Some Metropolitan dancers are turning professional this year. James Sciarrotta will spend the summer at Nashville, where he has been offered a position in Nashville Ballet II. Graduating senior Lindsey Stevens has been invited to Milwaukee Ballet for the summer as a candidate for the company. Jacqueline Hixson, also graduating, will join Columbia City Ballet in South Carolina as a company dancer.
